Symbols can be like badges... they help us identify each other, those who belong and are part of this group.
Symbols can remind us and represent important things and be used in worship and devotion, a focus.
For some religions actual pictures or representations are simply not allowed so symbols serve in their place
Some symbols are reminders and artifacts that link modern religions with ancient traditions, giving continuity and legitimacy.
