If you could ask any question to a vet?

In a few days I will be attending a nutrition seminar led by a vet who has helped develop some of the dog food brands that are considered healthy (not grocery brands, and not Hills). I am trying to come up with a list of questions to ask while I am there. If you were attending this kind of seminar, what would you want to ask?

I would ask about his advanced education. Hopefully he has his MS in nutrition. If not then I know that I wasted my money.

Other things that I would ask him is:

Was the nutritional adequacy of the foods that he developed based on feeding trials following AAFCO rules? If not why not?

Do these companies do stability testing on their raw ingredients?

Are these companies using a fixed formula ration?

Where are the raw ingredients coming from?

I would listen very closely on how the terms holistic, organic, natural, and human grade were used.

Many people don't realize that holistic and natural are "feel good" terms. They have no meaning legally. Organic means that he ingredients have come from organic sources as by law. A food cannot be considered organic unless all the food ingredients come from organic sources. Many people do not realize that human grade products must be manufactured in a plant meant for human food.

I would ask about recalls and what these companies do to tell their customers about recalls.

I know that I've caused some of these people to "Um ,ah, er ah, and him ha around because I asked a question that they did not wnat to answer in public.

WELL. ask them how they know that that dog food is good for the dogs? What test have they given to the dogs to prove this? How are they testing the dogs with the dog food to prove this? What dogs are tested to prove this? What ingredients make this dog food better? How do those ingredients help the dogs? How long have they been testing this dog food for, weeks, months or years? What are the key ingredients for a healthy dog? Could their been and negatives, like brittle nails? Just thinking of what I can think of right now.

What is the strangest dog name you have ever heard? How much dose the "better" dog food effect my dog? Would a dog be ok with a lesser dog food and if not why?
