Use some sort of strong strap or chain. Wrap it round the lid and fold it back on itself, then twist.

Or use your hand: hand upside down, lid between thumb and forefinger, then twist - strongest grip you have!

Tip: tap the lid fairly hard on the top with your knuckle (be careful!) or use the back of a heavy spoon, then try to open jar.

Tip: run lid under hot tap for a minute (not TOO hot!).

Old people: try the two tips above. They loosen the lid and help to lessen the pressure inside the jar.

You can buy devices that grip and twist the lid.

Grasp the top with your hand and twist. Your arm is a lever. Or, attach a length of string to a stick. Wrap the string around the top, tightly, and heave on the stick. Try to twist the top in the unscrew direction...

    Basically... magic

Source(s): Skyrim, the dwarves used magic for everything and it worked for them.
