Travelers checks are obsolete here now. You would have a hard time cashing them and would take a beating on the exchange rate.

The safest way to acess money would be through your ATM and credit card. But you have to be sure to let your bank stateside know you will be travelling here. Because of the high rate of credit card fraud if your bank does not know your here, they will cut your acess after the first transaction as a security precaution.

you can use atms, but it depends on where you are going whether you will find atms or not

if you can transfer money into an account that you can access there that would be the best option. last time i visited there i used a prepaid travel money card to withdraw from atms. there is usually a 200 peso withdrawal fee, keep that in mind

carry some spare cash for emergencies. stock up on currency if you are visiting remote areas

During my 7 trips here I used an underclothes money belt carrying up to $10,000 US in $100 dollar bills. They get the best exchange rate & I could take back with me what I didn't use.

You have to notify your bank if you use your credit card or ATM card before you leave or they will think somebody stole it & shut it down. But please be aware that using either one will cost you extra. Travelers checks will be too expensive & hard to cash also.

I am glad that you seen some of heads here that don't have a life. Not all the people are but some of them

It will always be unsafe to carry a huge chunk of money anywhere- not just in the Philippines. And besides, you are old enough to know how to take care of the money you have regardless of where you are going (no pun intended) but hey, AT-Machines here in the Philippines are accessible anyway. Just choose the right bank as to where you deposit your cash so that you will be guided as well.

Do they even stil have traveler's cheques??? I thought they stopped using those like 35 years ago?

If you happen to have PHP, bring it.

Why wouldn't you be able to use ATM machines?
