Green tea with full caffeine?

Are there any green teas (bags, or bottled) which have the "black tea" serving of caffeine? I wanted to switch to green for the antioxidants, but I wanted to get my full load of happy sauce. I know supplementing with pills is one option, but I wanted to keep it simple.

Yes, there are many green teas which are high in caffeine. Like black tea, green teas are naturally quite variable in caffeine. The green teas highest in caffeine are those made primarily from tips. The following article explains what factors influence the caffeine content of a cup of tea:

Unfortunately, very few companies actually measure the caffeine content of their tea.

Green teas high in caffeine also tend to be a bit pricier. One variety naturally higher in caffeine is the Japanese green tea called Gyokuro. Matcha, powdered green tea, can also be high in caffeine. If you want caffeine, avoid the larger-leafed green teas, as mature leaves are lower in caffeine. Try to find teas made primarily of buds. The white tea silver needle, made exclusively of buds, is also very high in caffeine, although it is very expensive as well.

You can find information on different varieties of green tea here, as well as reviews and information on different sources where you can buy high-quality loose-leaf green tea.

I recommend just trying a bunch of different types of green tea and seeing how they make you feel. Caffeine is not the only thing influencing mood and alertness, so you may want to just sample teas and see which one has the desired effects!

I really recommend loose-leaf. One of my favorite companies for buying high-end Chinese green tea is Life in Teacup. I also had some great green teas from Teaspring lately. Upton Tea Imports has some very inexpensive Chinese green teas too, if you want bargain buys. I know less about Japanese green tea but other people have shared reviews on the site of those.

I hope you find this useful!

    =)
