What are the best ways to monitor internet traffic on a LAN ?

I have a client for which I have shared my PC's internet connection by using Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) . Can I monitor the network traffic being used including the accessed URLs of the client PC ?

    Software called Wireshark.

You can't do it unless you have consent of the person(s) you're trying to spy on.

Use Wireshark for free, or download Netmeter from http://www.hootech.com/NetMeter/ You can also use ManageEngine Desktop Central, System Surveillance Pro or NetGong.

Since your PC is in line of the data stream, Wireshark would work.

In a switched environment, typically you would configure a SPAN port to send all LAN data out a certain switch port to a specialized capture server.

You don't need consent, just do it if you want to.
