Isn't he a character? He's always saying stupid things like "our American Cousins" when he clearly doesn't have a clue about America or even what he's talking about. But you also have to realize that whatever we write sounds clear to ourselves but may not be clear to someone else. Also, people will nit pick over details therefore it's best to be short and to the point even though that actually takes longer to write. Don't let it bother you so much, the real value is that the questions are making you go out and research stuff so you actually learn while answering questions. You'll never be able to inform others of what you've learned cause there will always be someone else who doesn't know but at least you will have learned by answering.
Edit:
The Hb-A1C shows the accumulated exposure of red blood cells to glucose and red blood cells live for 90-120 days. But red blood cells are also made all the time therefore the Hb-A1C is indicative of the average glucose over 30 to 40 days, yes there is data that is 120 days old but it is not indicative of your glucose level over 120 days though you can not discount any possible peaks or valleys during the full 120 days from affecting the data. Anyone who passed grade school math and has done the center of mass for a triangle knows this. Obviously our friend is a victim of inferior schooling. I should add that when I was diagnosed, my A1C was 5.5% ( both before being hospitalized and confirmed at the hospital ) but my glucose was well into the 700's mg/dl for a week, so I had to go back for extra tests and have the A1C broken down as how it's built up so the 30 to 40 days is from specialists.

Yes, diabetes can skip a generation. However, it is a 50/50 chance that it will be passed on like any other disease for example: Huntington's, MS, Cancer...etc. AND Yes, diabetics can live a long and full life IF and that is IF they take care of their bodies. Eat well, exercise, test their blood regularly to keep their blood sugars at an acceptable level so that they do not get too high or too low. In general most diabetics have damaged pancreas, kidneys and livers so drinking alcohol is not something that they should do, smoking is bad, and over eating and not eating enough is also bad. It is very important that diet and exercise become just as regular as testing their blood. High blood sugars: Can cause blurred vision, the need to urinate frequently, hunger and thirstiness all the time. Long term affects - damage the kidneys and liver. That is why it is important for them to inject their insulin which the pancreas is not producing to turn their blood sugar into energy. If the high blood sugar is not treated or goes too high, the person can go into a diabetic coma, which is called 'ketoacidosis', and the person can die. Low blood sugars: Aka 'hypoglycemia'. Symptoms are hunger, nervousness and shakiness, perspiration, dizziness or light-headedness, sleepiness, confusion, difficulty speaking, feeling anxious or weak Hypoglycemia can also happen while you are sleeping. You might cry out or have nightmares, find that your pajamas or sheets are damp from perspiration, feel tired, irritable, or confused when you wake up. The person needs a snack, or a drink of something that will bring their blood sugar back up. If untreated, this can cause unconciousness. In an emergency a shot of a glucagon injection can bring the person back to a normal blood sugar level, another person usually has to do this.

I notice you've had another idiot agree with you. (I notice, John W, that you're no longer spouting the rubbish about the HbA1c level giving you an average of your blood glucose levels over the previous 30 to 40 days. That's good. You now seem to be accepting that you were wrong.)
Maybe, if you expressed yourself clearly, and NOT say things like you are a doctor, and DON'T spout rubbish in your replies, you MAY get more best answers.
How come, Nikola, that less than two weeks ago you were stating that you'd had diabetes for 5 years and now that's suddenly jumped up to you having had it for 10 years? Is this another lie or are you mistaken about that too? If you weren't diagnosed until 5 years ago you can NOT say that you've been diabetic for 10 years. There is absolutely NO WAY that a doctor can tell you that the symptoms you were experiencing for the 5 years before were all down to you having diabetes. MAYBE, once you've learned a little about diabetes you'll come to understand that.
Edit:
Sadly, John W, you've just proven that your idiocy persists. You don't even seem to have the capability of understanding when someone ... in this case your endocrinologist ... is trying to explain basic concepts to you.
