What will happen when Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away?

With Queen Liz being on the throne for such a long period of time here coronation predates both me and my parents!

When God forbid she does pass away, what will happen? I have asked my grandmother what happened when George VI died but she can't remember it was that long ago. Does anyone have any idea on what to a Brit can expect to happen.

For a short period the Queen's body will lie in State so that people can pay their respects to her. Then there will be an official day or official days of mourning usually around the time of her funeral. Then there will be the day of her funeral and this will be a State Funeral. Her coffin will have her Standard draped over it, the Imperial Crown on the top with floral accompaniments.

Immediately at the time of her death an announcement will be made at Buckingham Palace and at the place where she is if she is not in residence at the Palace. The announcement will be "The Queen is dead, long live the King" The British Constitution does not provide for us to be without a Monarch. When Charles dies the announcement will be "The King is dead, long live the King"

There will be a proclamation posted on Buckingham Palace gates proclaiming the Queen's death.

Naturally Charles will become King on his mother's last breath. Charles will be the oldest Monarch to accede to the Throne. (Presuming Charles is still alive at the time of his mother's death, otherwise William will be King sooner than he thinks).

For the Queen's father George VI there was no service in London..merely a state procession from Westminster Hall, where he lay in state, to Paddington Rail Station. The funeral service took place at St George's Chapel Windsor with an interment in the Royal Vault. Some seventeen years later the king's body was re-interred in the newly constructed King George VI Memorial Chapel off the north aisle. I wonder whether the Queen will follow this example or that of her mother who had her main funeral service in Westminster Abbey and a much shorter one at Windsor prior to her burial.

What do you think will happen? There will be a State Funeral, Charles will be named as King (although whether he'll ever be crowned is debatable as I think he may well stand down in favour of William but I have no real grounds for my thoughts, it's just a feeling) and after a period of mourning at Court, life will go on.

God won't forbid the passing of the current Queen. We all die!

Based upon what happened when King George VI died when I was a child in c1952k (me age 11 then). The entire nation stood still. The theatres closed, so too the cinemas and many other establishments. The shops had black and purple in their windows and so forth.

Possibly the most famous Royal photograph ever - The Three Queens in Mourning. It was taken at Victoria Station here in London - on the right Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, in the centre Queen Mary Mother of King George VI and on the left HM Queen Elizabeth II - so young too.

There is no Queen of England. There is a Queen of the United Kingdom. There would be a celebration of her life and an acknowledgement of her 60 years reign.

Royal funeral. Horse drawn cart, flag draped coffin. A little more elaborate than her mother's funeral and a lot more than Diana's burial. You'll see when Philip croaks. Elizabeth will hit 100, her mother was 102.

I can remember the king George death,it was followed by totally mournful music on the radio and it was to put it frankly totally over the top.King George vi was basically a decent man,and it should be remembered he refused to have the royal yacht built as we were totally broke as a nation, unlike his grabbing bloody daughter who as soon as she became Queen had the keel laid and with the help of her bloody Greek penniless prince made sure it was totally luxurious,so I personally wil;l celebrate for a whole month when the ***** is laid to rest, but unfortunately have to witnes the second whore becoming the Queen of Britain

There will be a big, state funeral, and a period of mourning, and then Prince Charles will be crowned, sometime in the year after her death.
