How does he look to you guys?

Buckshot is a 9 year old, registered AQHA gelding. When I got him I was told he'd done good in halter as a colt, but what about now showing in smaller classes? I'm sorry he's not perfectly squared up, these are the best shots I could find. No rude comments please.

I do realize that he has long pasterns and he has been seen about them by a vet and farrier and he's been cleared sound for anything. I mostly do trail riding but am patterning him on barrels and maybe a little jumping (under 2 feet)

Update:

He does wear boots, regardless of what we're doing :) And those are the ones I actually own haha thanks so much!

Hes' fine for what you propose to do with him. I like him. I like his shoulder and length of back, and I don't find his pasterns exceptionally long, but I might try to avoid barrels.

Stay on top of his fitness, vet and farriery work and I'm sure he'll fulfill all your hopes.

Cute horse!!:) Conformation wise, hes not perrrfect, but hes good! He might have touch of a short back(which isnt bad!) and a bit of a high wither, I cant rreally tell if his back legs are straight or not, but the fronts look fine. Your right he does have long pasterns esp. for a QH!! I dont mind long pasterns it makes the gait smoother, but i always get a bbit nervous with them because you dont want to tear the suspensory! Very serious, and more common in long pasterns. If you get the professionals choice Elite sport boots. you can get em on horse.com statelinetack.com and other places! that will protect them. Becuase if you jump him the suspensorys will start strerching. And barrels. And just riding in general, its good to have them. He also looks like he could potentially have a sway back when hes older. Make sure all his tack fits, and round him. Dont just tuck his head, get him actually collected and round like a banana or a rainbow!!(my trainer says that) and get those back muscles strong, you dont want a swaying horse. Hope i helped and best of luck with your horse!! hes a cutie!!

I think he is a nice sound solid looking gelding. I do not think you have anything to worry about with his pasterns, they look ok to me.

I like a short back and he appears to have a lot of muscle in his hip, it is always good to have a good gaskin that ties down well into his hock like that.

You should be able to to about anything that you are trainer enough to do with him. By the way usually by the time a horse is 5 he should be reined well enough and broke enough to go into a shank bit.

I am sure when they said he did well in halter they meant he was broke to lead very well. He may make a barrel horse if he stays sound.

That ain't no halter horse in my opinion, if that was true it must have been open/fun shows. Just like was previously said what they meant is he did well on haltering/leading. I'd try my hand at roping with this one if your looking to choose a discipline .

He looks good- could probably use some muscle which will happen with time the more you work him. I bet once he's cleaned up and bathed he's stunning!

His conformation is......meh. He's not a trainwreck but he's certainly not "WOW" either.

Little local classes? Sure. Anything big? No.
