Dublin is not a cheap city. And you won't find a whole lot of real Irish culture in Dublin - for all that it's the capital of the Republic and historically very important, because it was the second city of the British Empire for a very long time, Dublin feels much more 'English' than the rest of Ireland.
Head outside of Dublin, try Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford or Kilkenny, all of which are easily reached by train: www.irishrail.ie.
For budget accommodation, try www.hostelworld.com. All types of accommodation are included, read all reviews before booking.

Sorry to say, but you are finding limited vacancies due to the last min. planning of arranging your accommodations. Plus less than $100.00 per night, that is nothing if you really think about it. Look how much less than $100 gets you here. Places I wouldn't even consider in staying at cost $60 - 70 dollars. I say when you find something book it. You are leaving in JUST over a month, that is very last min for Europe reservations, or well many places really. Good Luck, I think your going to need it!

Not only do they allow you to compare rates for all the major accommodation booking sites to guarantee the cheapest prices available, they also have loads of pretty honest reviews from people that have stayed in the hotels as well.

You'll be wanting to stay in Donegal then where people still speak Irish, play traditional music, cut turf and enjoy the craic.Check out B&B's in Gweedore.

Yes, there is a nice place in northern Dublin called "No Tell Motel," in which you have the option of paying hourly.
