swollen drooping eye lid?

Howdy everyone.

My boyfriend's left eye lid has been painful and achy for about 3 days now. On day two we noticed that his eye lid was drooping and puffy. This morning it was crusty and still very puffy and red. His insurance is not covered in the current state we are located. We could go to the ER with a 150 copay but he is insisting that there is no problem. I am concerned because it has only gotten worse over the past few days. I have been putting hot compresses and small amounts of castor oil but to no avail. The free clinic in our area does not cover face or eye issues..bummer. I'm about to drag him to the doctor against his will. I was just curious if any one has had a similar issue? His vision was slightly blurred for a good while this morning which really concerns me. I think it may be some type of infection.. not sure. Any ideas? Thanks.
