1995 Camry Running Hot?

On Monday, my car ran excessively hot. I have owned the car for a year and a half and the temperature gauge has always stayed perfectly in the center. I was on a long country road that only had a deep ditch for a shoulder as well as no cell service so, I had to keep going. It finally shut off about a mile outside the next town. It was slightly surging before the car shut off. Just as it might do if the car is out of gas but mine was not. Very subtly, in fact, I had to think to make sure that I really did feel it surge. Steam was pouring out of the reservoir and there was apparently oil that needed to be placed in the engine. I put both water and oil in the car and about 45 minutes later, it finally started. I managed to get it the next mile or so to the nearest Walmart parking lot. That whole mile the car did not seem to want to be going and was sputtering and surging and overheating.

I left my car there until today. Six days later. I filled the car back up with water (there is no leak and there is no water in the exhaust). I drove it around the parking lot a little bit. There was no water loss and it seemed to keep wanting to shut down. The car never seemed interested in running hot so we decided to risk it and drive it home.

As soon as I got out of the parking lot, the temperature started rising and less than two miles later, there was water spewing out of the reservoir. I pulled off the road again about two miles from Walmart. There was still plenty of water. The plug/hose coming off the top of the reservoir, was too hot to touch. That is not normal. I put water in there frequently. We also noticed that the hose coming from the top of the radiator, appeared to be attempting to pull from the radiator or something because the hose kept flattening as if it was a tight seal instead of open for the fluid to come through.

I do know that there are two fans and they don't appear to be coming one either. I have been told though, that is likely a separate issue.

Any Ideas??

As far as the fans go, check the fuses and the relays and the links.

A hot upper hose is usually a good sign because it means the thermostat is wide open and sending the water to the radiator for cooling. The fans do the cooling, so they MUST work, if they don't then that causes a major problem. What you have is what is referred to as vapor lock. Instead of the water cooling its expanding and blowing out all the stop gaps.

You need to get those fans back in operation.
