Are children of drug-abusing parents more likely to abuse drugs?

Also, would you please relay how you discovered your information (like essays, articles, medical journals, etc.)

Thanks in advance!

In short, yes. Drug addiction is the result of two things: an addictive personality, and actually trying the drugs themselves. No one's gonna get addicted to cocaine if they never try it, even if both their parents were severe coke addicts. And if a person's parents were heavy drug users before the kid was born, but the parents never take up drugs again, the kid has about as likely a chance as anyone to get hooked on drugs because they won't see it at all growing up. Also, if a baby is born to a crackhead mom who gives up the kid for adoption, the kid still has the strong potential to become an addict but if they're raised in a good environment and is never exposed to the drug, they won't become an addict. On the other hand, the son of an alcoholic who always sees his dad reaching for the bottle may develop similar behavior because that's what he's grown up seeing, and since he probably inherited his dad's addictive personality, he'll likely become an alcoholic as well. Does that make sense? We had a debate about the whole nature vs nurture issue in my psychology class once, and this was one of the topics.
