Washer/dryer Philippines?
I am from the US and have been here in Cavite Province, Philippines for a couple of years. A month ago, my sponsor suggested we buy a "fully automatic washer/dryer" which he thought would cost around 45k Php. I have spent alot of time in Abenson looking at these things. I see the big old American style where one big unit washes the clothes and another one dries them. I also see the over-under apartment size, but I can't find a "fully automatic washer/dryer". That description sounds like one machine where you put your dirty clothes and later take them out and wear them, with no line drying required.
Also I see alot of plastic washers with one or two vertical drums. I dont have a clue about those.
A language and cultural problem prevents getting any advice in the store. They dont know what I am talking about and vice versa.
So, is there a device that is truly a "fully automatic washer/dryer" or are we stuck taking the clothes out after the spin cycle and hanging them up? I am not complaining about having to do that, I just want to know what to expect.

45k pesos is just your regular automatic washing machine, the dryer is just spin dry or tumble dry selector. it does remove extra water from clothes to prevent dripping mess but it does not dry them. you still have to hang them up to dry. If you check out abenson's and other appliance stores, they have machines that have separate tubs, one is just for washing, and the other is just for spin dry / tumble dry. LG has one machine that does washing and actual drying in one machine and really fully automatic but it costs twice the price.

The fully automatic washer/dryer they are talking about is the same as the automatic washer we have in the US. It is just an automatic washer.
The regular washer here is only 1 tub that washes & rinses the clothes but does not spin dry.
The fancy washer here has a twin tub with one as the washer. You still have to fill the tub yourself between wash & rinse cycles then You have to transfer the clothes to the other smaller tub for a spin dry. Then you hang the clothes.
So basically what I am saying is that there is NO machine that washes, rinses, & dries the clothes.
The whole thing is frustrating isn't it?
I went through the whole rigmarole that you did just so my wife would not have to wring out the clothes by hand.

I have heard of these combination appliances before. I just Googled--Combined automatic washing machine and dryer.
Hundreds of pages with lots of products are available --whether or not available in the PI would be guessing as we all know most of the stuff there is junk. You could buy off Amazon or E-Bay I suppose. Anyway, a decent Panasonic is available, basically works the same as any other machine, load the cycle, put in the detergent , switch on and when the cycle is finished your clothes are washed AND dried.
NOT cheap these machines. But available. The more I think about it I doubt you'd find one in SM or Ayalla, probably an Internet purchase from the PI .
Just a thought--a local girl will wash your clothes for years and do just as good a job as the money you will spend on one of these machines.

Was your sponsor filipino? If so, I understand the miscommunication.
What your sponsor may have meant is a machine like this: http://www.abenson.com.ph/shop/products.asp?produc...
It is a washer + dryer (spin dry) all in one tub. You set the was cycle and it does everything upto the spin dry part.
Its technically a washer+drier, but it does not come out wearable, in my opinion. You still need to hang dry it after.
I have not seen a machine in the philippines, nor in the US that is fully automatic that has a built in heated tumble dry.
I'f that's what you want, then I suggest getting a washer and a separate dryer (the heated tumble ones).
You can still have both within the 45k budget, or even less.

I have no knowledge of one machine that does both jobs, washing and drying. In Mexico I have seen a washer with the two wooden rollers on the outside serving the purpose of "dryer" but it basically just squeezes out the water before you hang the clothes up. Hanging is the best way to get the clothes WHITE as the sun bleaches the whites naturally. Since there has always been a lot of white clothes in that country, it might be the preferred method (also the Greenest). I really cannot think of any one machine that does both. I have seen in France, Japan and US- two separate machines.
