Was the fuel filter put on wrong?

My son has a 1991 Firebird. It was "bulking" when he would take off so a friend of his changed the fuel filter. Shut the car off and it wouldn't start back up. The next day I looked out and thought it had rained because the road was wet. I went out to look and found that the car had dumped all of the gas and oil on the ground. There was so much that it formed a puddle along side of my curb. Could the filter have been put on wrong? We are at a loss on what to do.

the car would not lose all the gas and oil if the filter was put on wrong. now it may have not been put on properly if all the gas leaked out. The best thing to do is get under there and check it out.

there is a arrow on the filter and it should face the engine but even if the filter was put on wrong it would not dump gas on the ground unless it was leaking. where the oil is coming from is probably something on the engine is leaking like the oil filter or drain plug in the oil pan.

changing a fuel filter is unlikely to cause a vehicle to dump all of its gas and ail there is a problem some where that is for sure It sounds like the crank case is full of gas otherwise where did all the oil come from. something in the carb went bad and let the gas siphon into the engine and down into the crank case? drain the contents of the engine and see what is inside.

How many or which filter did he change? There iz the gas filter ..oil filter. ..which was it? There isn't enough. Information for a specific answer but changing the oil filter couldn't cause the gas to leak and changing the gas filter couldn't cause the oil to leak.
