How many of you are aware of one of the oddest conincidences in American History?

The two men MOST responsible for the framing of the Declaration of Independence and getting Congress to approve it were Thomas Jefferson and John Adams.

BOTH men died on the same day.

July 4th, 1826...... the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration.

Update:

Gerard.... quite obviously, and have been for the last 50+ years. I was just throwing it out there.

    Yes... here's another good coincidence.

The old saying "the Civil War started in Wilmer McLean's front yard and ended in his front parlor" is actually close to being true.

In 1861 Wilmer owned the land the First Battle of Bull Run (the first major battle of the war) was fought on. During the battle a cannon ball smashed the chimney of his home. After the battle he told his family they going to move away from the dangers of the war, so he bought a farm about 150 miles away and moved to Appomattox County, Virgina. In 1865, the Battle of Appomattox Court House occurred, then when Robert E. Lee and U.S. Grant met to sign the terms of surrender to end the war, they met and signed the papers in the front parlor of Wilmer McLean's new home.
