Why are people discussing the new television show GCB in spirituality & religion like it is a serious debate?

The show is based on a fictitious book that mocks hypocrisy not Christianity. It also pokes fun at overeating and obsessions, grudges, high school cliques, class-ism, Texas, Texans, infidelity and a bunch of other stuff including booby bars, red bottom shoes, marts (for shopping for everything and I love me some K-Mart), ponzi schemes, and just about anything else you find in today's headlines. The spouting of religious texts is only funny because of the fact that these characters genuinely support their attitudes behind biblical words. The lessons are still there to be learned if you have half a brain.

None the less it is a television show to either be enjoyed or ignored that is why cable has over 1000 channels. You aren't forced to watch anything that insults your personal agenda.

The only reason it is being discussed is some people find it offensive. I am a Christian but I think it is hilarious. I have meet a good number of "christians" who act very much like the characters on the show. There is some truth in every stereotype. If anyone thinks that all Christians act like that based on a television show they are not very intelligent and not worth your time anyway. I think where the upset people are coming from is that in today's media christianity is pretty much the only religion you can poke fun at. If you made a show based on Jewish stereotypes or Islamic stereotypes you know that it would be taken off the air immediately or never even make it to production because of political correctness.

Because people LOVE being offended and will go to huge lengths to frame anything that doesn't conform to their idea of how any idea (religion, politics, etc.) as "offensive". It's like the oppression olympics...they're dying to be the most victimized group.
