my 1973 vw bug died while driving and wont start again, please help?

so i was just driving down the road and it shut off, the fuel system works for sure, it turns over, has plenty of clean oil, but wont fire. i just finished restoring it after about 6 years of sitting in a garage and it ran fine until this (like 60 miles) so what else could be wrong?

Update:

i did not restore the engine, but it was rebuilt 6 years ago (not by me)

check the green wire on the coil it goes to the dizzy and sometimes it can work loose and fall off. its the first place i would check since you're getting fuel and no fire. best to start at the plugs and follow it back to the ignition looking for problems.

Hmm, a couple things come to mind, first check to see what is missing, fire or fuel.

See if there is voltage going to the dizzy, maybe the points just closed!

Pull the air cleaner, see if you are getting gas! There is a electric shut off valve on the side of the carb that goes bad, just unscrew it, cut the barrel end off with a set of dykes, and screw it back in!

If you have a vacuum retard on it, take the hose off and plug it off the intake side

sounds like 2 distinctive themes, ERRR sound is the two a loose or grimy bat. cable, study that first, if it is wonderful. ought to desire to be starter going undesirable. Is your study engine common on? if confident, you could desire to get workstation scanned for hassle codes and sensor readings. there are fairly some opportunities as to subject, gasoline sparkling out or pump, ignition module or a dozen distinctive themes. you could desire to take to qualified save and get regarded at, easiest and maximum low-priced thank you to bypass. Guessing won't restore and value greater. Tow to maintain now no longer abode.

it's probably ignition related..get a new coil first; that's the easiest way...amd it may have a bad fuel pump; these are manual..not electric

It just died like that? That's so sad considering how old it was. I recommend a proper burial for such a poor insect. Please come back to me with more information. I would like to attend the funeral.

What did you learn when rebuilding it? Obviously you need to troubleshoot the ignition if it is getting gas.
