Single Ram cichlid in a 5g Planted tank?

Is it possible to keep a Ram cichlid in a well planted 5g tank..?! I mean, only one Ram, either male or female.!

*Let's give a break, to all the Bettas.*

I Think i'll just cop hate for this but hey i don't care!

Ram's are not the best option as a bettas alternative. I see you have top contributor status in fish so you obviosuly know that rams are a herder fish to keep than most.

I've keep rams sucessfully in a 20G, they have reproduced and i have give them away. People that haven't kept them really just go way over the top.

Sure they do need low ph. i have it a 6-6.5 with perfect water quaility in soft water. But seriosuly they are not as hard to keep as most people think. Mine have been alive amost a year now with no problems at all!

No i got that out of the way.

I'd say you could keep one single male in a 5G if you could maintain the water quaility that they need. In all honesty that's all the minimum tank size is really about.

They aren't a very active fish but niether are neon tetras and they apparently need 20G plus but i've seen them kept in 5G's for years.

The alternatives i'd say over a betta in a 5G IF YOU CAN MAINTAIN THE WATER QUALITY would be:

    1 gourami: honey/dwarf or 2 sparkling

    6 Neon/ember/blood fin tetras

    3 endlers male

    6 white clouds

    3 climbing glaxis

    1 male guppy

    1 shell dweller

    1-2 ADF

    5 Khuli loaches

But that would be the max i'd put in it. And I really wouldn't like to i'd rather them all in 10G's but id say i have the experience and actually look at my water quality and do water changes.

As i said i'll get so many thumbs down but honestly i honestly believe some of the people who you just know from their resposes could do this and they know they could like smoggle, jogi, pytr pytr ect. It's just not recommended for people who have no idea what they are doing in which as they should stick to the laws

A 20 gallon long, planted, with a single German Blue Ram would be a beautiful set up. But 5 gallons is no where near suitable for any Ram.

A rather cool fish you can acquire for your 5 gallon is a Dwarf Puffer. They seem like cool fish, will love all the plants and will not exceed 1 inch. They will also munch on any snails that travel on your live plants. If there are none then you need to get very small snails from the pet shop, pond, etc. Dwarf Puffers teeth never stop growing and need snails to eat so their teeth get filed down.

    Ram Cichlid

Rams cant do well in anything under 20, there ARE cichlids that may work in a 5g but it'd require a ton of effort on your part, and the specific species are rather rare.

No ! Its too small for a Ram to be kept in 5 gallon tank ! They need to be kept in a bigger tank around 29-30 gallons. 5 Gallon is suitable for bettas / guppies / mollies etc, only and not for Rams. Take care.

    Thank you :)

    Hope this helps !

    All the best.

No Rams really shouldn't be put in anything smaller than a 29 gallon tank in my opinion.

No. I think u must have considered 'only' the size of the Rams. The 1 inch per 1 gallon rule does not work for many fish.

that's just plain torture to that ram cichlid i agree with the others first u need at least a 25 gallon tank. fishes need space to strive and be healthy and happy remember that's their home they do everything in there
