How can feelings of regret undermine an individual’s sense of contentment?

There's just too many big words there, but I guess I just need help getting some ideas formulated. So any help would be appreciated.

If you feel like there are things in your past that didn't go as you wished, you regret something and are thus dwelling in the past. Dwelling in the past prevents you from being fully involved in the present and thus you are never fully content

Or, regrets make you feel like you did something wrong or there is something you could have done better, and if you're constantly remembering/thinking about what could have happened or what didn't happen, you're never truly happy with your actual successes.

    I hope this helped!
