Poem 1
Once upon that summer night
When it was only you and I,
Laying playfully in the meadow
Watching the clouds waltz by
Dancing around beneath the sun,
Swimming, splashing in the ocean,
Tanning under warm sun rays
Those wonderful summer days
Once upon that cool fall morning
You and I together, never apart
Frolicking around the leaves
Carving jocko lanterns
Crisp air nips your nose,
Thanksgiving turkeys for us,
Us, together, as we thought forever
On those pretty fall mornings
Once upon that cold winter night,
You and me, snow falling,
Our first Christmas together
Snow falls on us, being together.
White Christmas, pretty
Happy New Years, joyous
And together we stayed
On those crisp winter nights.
Spring came and went,
I was not with you.
I didn’t tell you,
I kept this a secret.
Through our time together,
My cancer had spread
But I couldn’t tell you
I wouldn’t see you cry.
But it’s alright,
I am out of my suffering now.
I am with God
In peace for all eternity.
Please do not cry for me,
I’m happy don’t you see?
Don’t be mad I didn’t tell you,
Be happy we were together.
Though now we are apart,
In separate worlds,
But together we will be
When we meet again some day.
Be happy, please
I wish you love and joy
May happiness and peace,
And good times come your way.
I will take our memories with me,
Hold them in my heart for eternity,
My body is on earth with you,
But I am up above watching over you, forever.
Poem 2
God gave her the strength to say goodbye,
As she held back the tears in her eye.
She tries so hard not to cry,
When he gives his promise not to die.
The soldier is off to war,
At home, his wife has a heart so sore.
Friends give her comfort and love,
God gives her strength from up above.
He’s a hero, and her husband, too,
Fighting for America, for me and you.
It is the hardest time of her life,
but it’s her job as an Army Wife.
The months go on and on,
June, July, and August, gone.
With no news from overseas,
Her worries slowly begin to flea.
A soldier shows up at their home.
Bad news was easily known.
She looks at her kids, only age six and four.
The kids with a father, who lived no more.
The soldier reached his death,
He had taken his last breath.
Without a single goodbye,
Tears quickly filled the woman’s eye.
Happiness is long at lack,
For her husband is not coming back.
Tears are wiped from every face,
Hoping the fallen soldier receives God’s grace.
The pain of a loss is impossible to bear,
Like the final expressions of their love and care.
His spirit will always be near,
And each prayer he will be sure to hear.
The soldiers’ bravery was always treasured,
As his heroic story lives on forever.
The military band made a beautiful sound,
As his casket was lowered into the ground.
For his honor does not end with his death,
His legacy lives past his last breath.
The man she will never forget,
The soldier who reached the goals he had set.
Reaching for God’s strength to say goodbye,
There isn’t a single tearless eye.
With thanks for the life the fallen soldier has given,
As he rests forever passed the gates of heaven.
