What to do about a computer virus hiding files?
I've used the tutorial on bleepingcomputer.com to unhide some files.
However, all of the icons appear to be faded, as if they're still locked. While I can access them, this is obviously not the way it should be.
Also, my Internet favorites are still missing, as well as my antivirus systems (Spybot and Norton- which clearly were not exactly efficient).
How can I retrieve my IE favorites/any other files that are missing, such as the antivirus systems?
For the record, I have Windows 7.
Unfortunately neither of those ideas has worked, but thanks anyway.

It looks like you only set the Folder view options to show hidden files but you haven't really changed the file attributes as not hidden. That's why you are seeing them as a faint icon or text.
Open up Windows Explorer. Click on Organize > Folder and search options > View. Look for the button labeled "Don't show hidden files, folders and drives". Click on Apply and see your drive again. Those faint icons will disappear but don't worry.
Open up an "elevated" Command Prompt by right clicking on Command Prompt and run as admin. Type the following command:
attrib -h C:*.* /s /d
Note that there's a space after the following:
attrib
-h
C:*.*
/s
Now check your icons and files again.

One possibility is to go the start, type CMD in the search box. When the DOS window opens try cd\ to change to the root of C: From there type attrib -r- a -s -h. This may or may not work depending on what is going on. You might even have to type in cd users then cd my documents then the same in the AppData folder and repeat the attrib command. Again, this might not work. The other option if possible is to navigate to these folders in Windows and right click on them and uncheck the read only box.

sure they are in a position to cover in audio and video documents so as that when you play those documents the virus will turn on. you may quit this by ability of downloading avast domicile version and then working a test on the CD. There are rather twelve substantial styles of virus: trojan horse, Trojan, Macro virus, record infector, resident virus, boot virus, Direct action virus, Overwrite virus, itemizing virus, Polymorphic, logic bombs, fat virus and better half virues. A trojan horse slows down networking by ability of sending and receiving ineffective packets which provides to the site visitors. A Trojan is a scourge that broadcasts this is one record yet is truthfully a risky one. A Macro virus is a scourge that attaches itself to a particular macro, so as that once it rather is used, the virus is activated. The viruses that cover in Audio and Video documents are likely the two trojans or macros. wish this facilitates.
