Definitions:
Ratios are a comparison between two things. ex. 1 apple : 2 oranges
Proportions are two ratios that equal. ex. 1 apple: 2 oranges = 2 apples : 4 oranges
Differences:
Ratios are only a comparison between two things where as proportions can be more than two. As well as proportions being able to be ratios that can be reduced to simpler form.
Similarities:
Both ratios and proportions are related by "ratios/fractions" and are usually comparisons.
