What are some negative effects the Civil War had on the North?

I'm writing a research paper and I can't find much information on the negative effects of the civil war on the North. I need it to contrast how the south was affected worse than the north. Please give me all the effects you can.

Another cost related issue was the influx of slaves up North, whether it be by the Underground Railroad or the change in policy from returning captured slaves to the plantations where they worked to freeing them outright. In both cases the former slaves would need some sort of assistance if they were unable to find work right away. It is an unfortunate by-product of slavery.
