can you trace an email from a gmail account, and or a text from google texting?
i am a "victim of fraud". i sold a boat on craigslist to a guy for 375$. he sent me the "wrong transaction" that was meant for something else via money gram with a total of 1790$( two 895$ money grams). he told me to deposit the money in my account, cash it (1445$) and send the rest to the information he provided me with (he told me it was the shipping company who was picking up the boat and it was being shipped to maryland from california). i sent the rest of the money through western union and deducted the money transfer from his 1445 leaving about 1300 to be transferred. this morning i received a bank notification text saying that my account was negative 1700 because the money grams were altered/fictious(fake) and chase bank told me i am a victim of fraud. i am only 19 so i am unexperienced with commerce through money grams etc. he was contacting me through gmail and google texting, and i would like to(in addition to police report) find a way to determine where this mans computer is located if possible. i need help please.

Sorry to read that you lost money to a scammer running a scam but happy that you found this site to post your story.
Thanks for posting up the information on that scammer.
Making a scammer's scam googlable on every scam-warner-anti-fraud-busting site you can find is a great way to slow that scammer down when a suspicious potential victim goes looking for information, finds your post containing the name the scammer is using, his email address, phone number and the emails themselves and then that potential victim does not become a scam victim because you took the time "get the word out".
Thanks!!
Wasting a scammer's time legally and safely is called "scambaiting". If you google that word, you will find sites where you can read scambaits, post up the emails and email addresses of scammers, post up a fake website, read up on how to alert a hosting company that they are hosting a fake website, ask questions and learn all about the hobby of scambaiting.
Since that scammer intended to steal your money, he did not giving you his real life information. All you have is one of his fake names, one of his free email addresses, one of his fake stories and one of his paid-for-in-cash cell phone numbers. None of information is going to help your local law enforcement agency track down that anonymous scammer sitting in a cyber cafe half way around the world from you. Sorry.

You cannot trace the person, only the police can. You MUST report this asap to your local police. Bring them copies of all emails you received, printed out with full headers with the IP address visible. The police can work with Google's security team to trace the IP address of the person who sent those emails. You are the victim here, don't waste your time trying to find this person. Report this to the police and let them do their job. The longer you wait, the more of a chance there is of the person disappearing

i would say, talk to a computer expert or go to the police right away.
go to G-mail, go to "sent" and see if you can find the email that you e-mailed him.
unless you deleted it
Good luck!!!
