Er, well, Communism contains Socialism, but you don't have to be Communist to be Socialist.
Or more simply said; Socialism means that the state owns the means of production. Full Socialism is therefore not compatible with a free market Capitalism. Communism is a political ideology that among other things want full Socialism. However, by removing the parts of Socialism that do not fit with Capitalism (for example government-owned factories), limited Socialism (a so-called Mixed Economy) combines them. Limited Socialism exists in all Western countries, including the US (like public schools), but the partitions of Socialism and Capitalism may vary. Some countries, like Norway, are far left, while other countries, like France are politically Conservative.
