  • Brakes squeak?

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima. When I come to a stop, I'd say 80% of the time the breaks squeak. It's a high pitched squeak, BUT it's not loud (sometimes it's barely audible). A lot of times, the brakes won't squeak if I only gently push on the brakes--for instance, when I'm already going slow, I come to a very slow stop (i.e. in my neighborhood) by gently pushing on the brakes. The squealing noise doesn't usually happen then, but it happens when I push the brakes a little harder--for instance, if I were driving down a main road and come to a stoplight (I would call this a "normal" stop and not a "slow" stop).

There is no grinding and no pulling.

It also squeaks when I go in reverse. It's actually louder when I go in reverse out of the driveway.

  • having to refill coolant daily?

I have a 2000 Nissan altima. The coolant drained completely out--I have to fill up my car with coolant every day before I leave for work. By the time I get home, the reservoir is almost empty. I can't see ANY leaks under my car, and on top of that one of my radiator fans isn't working. What would be possible causes?

  • How to properly care for a dog while at work?

I usually work from 8-5 (sometimes shorter hours), but we were looking in getting two dogs. I've seen lots of differing opinions on this, so here's what we were looking for:

    1. I feel like 8-5 is a long while (hence why we want two, so they don't get too lonely) for a dog to be inside, but I've seen arguments that leaving dogs outside for that long is bad too. We probably wouldn't have anyone able to come and let the dogs out during the day, but we do have a LARGE shed in the back that we don't use that we were going to use as a dog house, because yes, they would be outside dogs while we were at work.

    2. Is there a way to train dogs NOT to jump fences? We have a 3.5 foot fence, and we were looking at medium sized dogs (we may be building a larger fence in the future, but as of now we do not have a large fence). If there are ways, do you know of (or can provide one) any tutorials on properly fence training dogs?

    3. We are teachers, so we have summers off to be able to spend with the dogs and train them. This is why we are looking at getting two dogs in the next couple of weeks, as that allows us to properly train them, get them used to the house, and properly supervise them inside and outside the house.

  • Oil light on when I start my car, goes off after a couple seconds?

I have a 2000 Nissan Altima. I start the car and the oil light comes on, and stays on for 2-4 seconds before going off. It's never done this before, I got my oil changed three weeks ago, and this started a little over a week ago. Is this something someone should look at?

  • Difference between Polyester and Acrylic fur fabric?

I was wondering what the difference was between Polyester and Acrylic/Modacrylic faux fur fabric. Which would be considered a better quality? I recently found polyester faux fur that looks like what I need to match the fur I currently have (color and texture). However, what I currently have is a mix of acrylic/modacrylic, the stuff I found is Polyester. I am unsure if I should get the polyester because it's a different material., and they do not offer swatches for me to order.

  • If you're prequalified for $127k then...?

A friend of mine was prequalified for $127,000 for a home, but she continues to look at houses at or above $165,000. She has other bills, including tuition bills that average $250/month, and her monthly salary (after taxes) is $2000.

I have tried to subtly tell her I don't think she is going to be able to get a loan for that high. Am I correct in this assumption? She seems to have fantasies of being able to afford houses much higher than her prequalification, but I was under the assumption that the possibility of her getting something $40k more than what she is prequalified for is virtually out of the question?

Anyway, I guess my question is, am I correct in thinking this? Because I really would like to tell her in a more obvious way so she doesn't get her hopes up. Whoever did her prequalification is either not explaining this to her very well, considering her agent is still showing her houses 160k and above, or either my friend is not listening. Or just maybe I'm wrong, haha.

  • Is the UK a country or is England, or what?

I don't know why this is so confusing...

Is the United Kingdom a country and England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales... are they all considered "states/provinces"? I'm reading something that states Scotland wanted more autonomy from England, so they eventually were given its own representative parliament. I'm really confused, because I had always thought England and Scotland were separate countries, and if so then why is the UK considered a country?

  • Help, what's wrong with my cat?

Around 6 weeks ago, my boyfriend and I adopted Boo (1.5 year old kitty) from the local animal shelter. We did our routine vet checkup, she was fine (other than worms). Almost three weeks ago, we adopted another kitty, Cortana. Both Boo and Cortana are female. Cortana is 7 months old.

When Cortana came home (not from the shelter, from an old friend who is not a cat person), Boo immediately took a liking to her. Cortana hid for about a day to two days. Cortana hissed (never scratched or attacked) at Boo. Within three days, the two were playing with each other.

I looked up what people considered "playing"--They pounced on each other, no "posturing" (except one time). No hissing or biting or scratching when playing, no "hot-oven paw movement" on each other. It was legitimate "tag" almost. They would take turns chasing each other. They'd sit on the bed with each other, both purring.

History on Boo: When we first got Boo, she was a lap kitty. She'd coo at the door when we came home, constantly wanting in our laps, fluffing up our laps, etc. She has dry skin according to the vet (she came home with dry skin, has continued to have it). Even before Cortana came into the picture, when Boo would shed she sheds in clumps (little black patches of fur here and there on the floor).

Ever since about a week ago, two weeks after getting Cortana, Boo's mood has all of a sudden changed. She has a teensie bit of eye discharge (no longer present in her eyes today). Her fur doesn't look...well, well-groomed, I suppose. Right below her neck it's like it got some kind of water on it, so it's matted? (not sure how to describe that). Cortana didn't attack her or bite her there--I groomed Boo last night, and woke up this morning and it's there again. It just seems like Boo's coat isn't quite as shiny as before, and in looking at her eyes...it's just she's got that faraway look to her. She no longer is enthusiastic to play with Cortana (who tries her best to nuzzle up to Boo, and Boo is no longer having it, she just walks away or ignores it). Boo doesn't hiss, bite, scratch, or flatten her ears at Cortana. I can't tell if Boo is eating (Cortana is a pig). We've tried putting Boo in our room at night (without Cortana) to see if she'll eat anything--the food has remained untouched. She didn't get off the bed to my knowledge, either--she hasn't gotten off the bed any of the nights she sleeps with us for the past two nights. She won't play with the red laser, won't play with hair ties, nothing.

I'm just so lost. Boo used to be a loving cat. She was loving even with the introduction to Cortana. And then last Tuesday, just a polar opposite change. Half the time she walks away when we try to pet her (this got a bit better yesterday, she walked up to me and rubbed against my leg)...but her playfulness is nonexistent.

I can't tell if she's sick, depressed...unhappy with the new kitty. It's snowing outside so I can't make it to the vet today but it's supposed to be warmer later today (hopefully it melts). I'd welcome any advice or help.

    Thanks.

  • Are my cats playing or fighting or establishing dominance?

I have Boo (1 year 7 months old). We purchased her three weeks ago. This past Friday, we adopted Cortana, our new tortie. Boo was adopted from a shelter, Cortana from another owner who realized she was not a cat person. Boo had been at the shelter for eight months, Cortana was at a home around two dogs. Both have very lovable characteristics about them, and are definitely people cats too.

When we introduced Cortana to the household, judging from what I've read we didn't do the introduction as we should have. However, Cortana jumped out of her crate and rubbed up under Boo's chin, then hissed at Boo, and then hid. Boo also rushed into playing with Cortana, making every attempt to play.

It's been two days, and they've started interacting with one another. I was wondering if this interaction is fighting, playing, or them trying to establish dominance. They will chase each other around. Boo will chase Cortana at some points, Cortana will chase Boo on other occasions--it seems they are taking turns. They do not hiss (Cortana has hissed twice at Boo over the past two days now), they do not scratch each other, nor are their ears flat when they are chasing and tumbling. Their tails ARE twitching, and the kitties will not flatten their ears, but their ears go back a bit (almost as if they hear a noise behind them, but not flattening them).

Boo and Cortana have had a couple stare-down contests, and when this happens Cortana tends to lower herself closer to the floor while Boo continues to sit and stare at her. I cannot tell if this is establishing dominance or playing or what. From what I have read, everything other than tail twitching is "friendly" somewhat, and it seems they are establishing dominance, but I cannot tell. Boo has "postured" from what I can see on doing research, but she does this rarely.

They eat from the same food bowl (not at the same time) and share the litter box.

  • why does my cat constantly scratch?

It's usually scratching around her neck.

    1) she has no flea collar (or collar at all)

    2) went to the vet a week ago, she does not have ear mites or fleas.

    3) she HAD tapeworm and they gave her a shot for it. She actually is still eating very little (despite being a large kitty)--no idea why that's going on either.

I can't figure out why she is scratching all the time, she sheds in very small fur clumps (I can't tell if that's from scratching or if it is from shedding--she's a medium haired cat), nor can I figure out if the tapeworm is gone...she's stopped scooting across the floor, but she hasn't done anything but urinate in her litter box for the most part, she rarely does the other (usually once every other day maybe).
