how do i fix this app on my computer?
i have microsoft word 2003 on my computer. i can pull up a document on it but i get locked out. i can't type or save any documents. would i have to re-install this program, and if i do how do i do it? or do i need to upgrade to a higher version?

You need to check first if your pulled document is locked or not, as if your document is locked, then you cannot do modification on that document.
Try to create new document, and if you can save/delete/edit it, then the issue is with your document and it mostly seems to be locked.
Also are you working on a network workstation ( a computer in your work or a place that has a network)? because you may do not have all the rights to change on the files, as you are not the administrator on that computer.
Try to log as administrator, or get all levels of control.
Also check the file you are working on, it may have property as a read-only file ( you can right click the document file, choose properties, then check it's attributes, if there is a check in the read-only, then remove it ( make it empty ) and press ok.
