I got sworn at online. Is it okay for someone to do this?

.that is something to which I have been subjected. I gave a clear, courteous answer and the asker graded it as a best answer. So naturally, I decided to have a look. I answer several questions per day on Yahoo Answers and do not have a great memory, so I looked to see what the response had been and what answer I had given.

Perhaps the other person had simply had a bad day and needed to vent their anger... But there as no need to swear at me or anybody else. Is this sort of behaviour considered okay online? I have no intention of taking it further even if that option is open to me. Why be vindictive? I would just like clarification on the matter with regard to whether this is acceptable online behaviour. Either way, I will at least be better prepared in future.Thank you.

Its not nice to get sworn at or any other derogatory remark made at you, but hey come on now, Yahoo is full of young idiots that come out with awful words, plus disgusting questions and they get away with it. It has made my blood boil somethings when you read as like in your case, you offer good advice and good wishes then the person puts you down in this way. More so when someone asks a serious question and then gets a terrible remark like ' drop dead you moron' I have seen it time and time again and it infuriates me. But like someone else said, you just have to develop a hard skin, there are too many idiots out there. Just put it down to experience and forget it, Yahoo seems to let a lot of these young idiots get away with a lot, yet then pick you up on something said in truth and with kindness for going against their rules. Well that's the Americans typically all into this politically correct stuff, sorry if your American obviously not all are the same, but on the whole its a country or government rather that is very hypocritical.

The only satisfaction you can get, is if they are open to email, then you could type back and tell them in polite terms that they are not very nice people. Don't let your blood pressure go up for any idiot OK.

I researched your answer and you did indeed give a polite and thorough answer. But some questioners don't really want the truth or even anyone to disagree with them so you must realize the potential for getting sworn at or told to Ef off like you were. But you should also take a look at how the person asking the question is stating their case. The person asking the question about Asberger's was already convinced it was a hoax so anything you said that would require him to research it or otherwise admit he was wrong wasn't going to fair well. So learn from it and move on.

There are a significant number of great people on here but you usually only remember the a$$holes. Don't let it get you down. Remember that this is a melting pot of people from all over the world and not everyone plays nice.

No, it is not acceptable. Ignore it. You must develop a thick skin. Keep in mind that most people would never treat someone in real life like they do online. So ignore them and move on.

NO! it is not appropriate behavior. obviously you are the bigger person because it has affected you. you have to chalk it up to experience. take an insult as a compliment and charge it to their intelligence! dont let it get to you-they are not worth your worry!

My goodness, you've not been around online very long have you; not that it is acseptable for people to do this.

You've got some nasty shocks ahead, big time!

No, it's not okay, but it happens everyday in this forum. It used to startle me every time it happened, but I've become so accustomed to it that I now just ignore it.......and that's really kinda sad......
