Trip to Lake Cachuma. For those who've been there, any suggestions? 10 pts.!?

it's my first time to head to Lake Cachuma, located somewhere in Santa Barbara, CA. planning to camp there for a couple of days. For those who have been there, i'd like to know which section is best to stay and camp in. i heard that at this time season, it is great to go there for fishing. hopefully, also to spot a bald eagle :) i did a little bit research, and from what i've read, there's no swimming in the lake :/ but kayaking is avaliable. i couldnt find the answer i was looking though because it's all based on experience if you been there. i would go check it out, but its a 3 hour drive. bottom line, what other activites are there around? and where is the best campsite? thanks in advance guys :)

I live in Santa Ynez ( about 15 minutes away from the lake ) the best spots are the ones away from the highway, group area and the general store. Sorry I don't know the camp site numbers by heart. The kayaking is really expensive and it depends on the weather if they'll be open or not. If you want to see a bald eagle I recomend the lake cruises I've seen a eagle, plenty of hawks, and other birds. the cruises can also be fun if you are traveling with kids. You can also rent boats and go fishing on the lake or fish from the piers and shore line. There is plently of trails that you can hike on. If you are bringing dogs they can't be within 20-50 ft of the lake. During the after noons it gets really windy and cold so be prepared and bring you own fire wood because you are not allowed to collect wood. If you want to travel into town for a bit I suggest going into Solvang, and Santa Ynez. One more thing make sure you lock up your food racoons, squirells, and birds will get into your food very quickly.
