Is this dress a cocktail dress?

I cannot figure out what makes a dress a "cocktail dress" and this is something I just got. Have an event this weekend, need to find a dress asap.

These are the dresses I have that I THINK are cocktail dresses.

    The first two are cocktail dresses - not so much the last one tho.

    Personally I'd go for the 2nd black one with heels.
