Why are people blaming Obama care for high gas prices? Isn't the magic of the marketplace setting the prices?

If Obama intervenes to lower gas prices, wouldn't that be (gasp) socialism? Shouldn't the free enterprise system be allowed to work? Why blame Obama?

Update:

Didn't mean "Obama care" in the question. Just "Obama"...lol

It is indeed doing just that. Republicans should love it.

Don’t like high gas prices? Blame Republicans. Here’s why:

No president can change gas prices. Blame Congress, specifically the Republicans who allow and protect Wall Street and their speculators. Well, maybe the Republican President can have some influence on the Republican Congress; the Democratic President most certainly has none.

Demand for oil in America is lower than it’s been since 2007. So what’s driving prices up if not demand? Wall Street. Just like the 2008 oil bubble that played a role in our economy crashing, Wall Street speculators behind the scenes are driving up the cost of oil and derivative markets and making massive amounts of money off it while Americans get fleeced at the pump. According to Tom Kloza, publisher and chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service, oil speculators on Wall Street have put $11 Billion on oil futures, betting the price will go up. When enough people bet, sure enough, the price goes up.

Who is all in favor of letting the rich speculators do anything they want? That's right, the Republicans. Who wants to regulate business? That's right, the Democrats. Who wants to stop giving huge taxpayer subsidies to the oil companies? The Democrats. Who insists that we keep giving the subsidies? The Republicans.

That’s the consequence of a financialized economy where Wall Street has to pick up the slack of “creating wealth” since we don’t manufacture anything anymore. Unfortunately, Wall Street can’t pick up the slack and has never created any actual wealth.

Plus there's the Koch brothers closing refineries to make Obama look bad right now. Watch for them to really hike gas prices around the election, trying to buy the candidate of their choice in every way they know how -- again, a product of the right wingers on the Supreme Court (see Citizens United).

Republicans are trying to crash our economy to make Obama look bad at election time. So how do you do that? Pick a fight with Iran. Iran closes down the Straights of Hormouz which stops the export of oil. The price of oil goes to $160-200/bbl, and the economy of the U.S. goes directly into the tank. They’ve got another 4-5 months to do this and they’re going to try to pull it off.

We’re already seeing prices go up as Republicans rattle their swords at Iran.

Supply & Demand: When you don't allow domestic offshore drilling, while investing in Brazil. Sick environmentalists on drilling elsewhere, stop the Canadian pipeline, and add regulations to oil companies...you influence the SUPPLY side...thereby influencing price.

if he had only let the keystone pipeline get finished, gas prices would be lower than a snake's belly in a wagon rut.

  • The poor oil industry only makes a few pennies off of each gallon sold.

There are so many examples of conservatives contradicting themselves.

"How dare Obama recommend that we should eat healthier food, they has no right!....and why hasn't Obama banned pink slime yet?"

Those who use the most gas should pay more for it.

My community uses very little and should get a windfall from the polluters.

Who is doing that? The two are unrelated.

Because they are stupid. Yes, Wall St. speculators actually.
