Is my friend an alcoholic?
Ok I've know him for 12 years. Me and him have been very close say about 5 years or so and we used to always do stuff like go to the movie, the beach, etc. But every time we get together now to catch up he always need to drink and I'm not meaning like 1 or 2 drinks, I mean atleast 10 beers when we go out. One of the issue that started to worry him about his drinking is that, just this summer we were at the beach and instead of going down for a swim he just went into the pub and had like 7-8 glasses of beer (including 2 or 3 when he was driving to the beach) and I was forced into having to drive he car home because he was over the limit.
Moreover, I went over to his house the other day like 11:30am on a Wednesday morning and he was already starting drinking beer and vodka.
More sign that I'm noticing is that
- He having party constantly at his house just so he can have a excuse to drink
- He drinks when he drives and often drive drunks
- He barely has any money and by barely he got a fair bit in debt with his credit card and spend all of his money what he can on alcohol.
- He acts overconfident when he drinking and think he is unbreakable
- He smell like alcohol, beer specially
- He will hang around other people that have drinking problem as well including other friends parents with drinking problems.
- Ridicules me for not drinking myself all the time or when he has a party
- He can has an increased tolerance for alcohol before he can get even slightly drunk
- He denies that he has a drinking problem
- He would find any excuse to drink
- He drinks almost every day
- He can get into fights and start being abusive when he drunk
Moreover, one night he was walking home drunk with his younger brother from a night out. And 2 people glassed and bashed him which resulted in nearly loosing his eye and having to have plastic surgery.
I just want to know from what I have written above, does he have a alcohol problem and as a friend what should I do about it because I'm not trying to put him down or anything, I just want him to see that there is a life out there which does not need to revolve around alcohol.
I'm not gay lol he just like a older brother to me

Talk to his family, and close friends then talk about an intervention!!!! Send him to treatment or at least start off with an AA meeting, he needs help, he is not only putting himself in danger, but other people as well when he drives! If you don't act on it now, he could die from a car accident, an over dose, alchoal poisoning, or develope a disease!! He's still a great person, he just has a little problem, everyone had downs, and need help to get back on their own feet once in a while!!
