Emotions make the person or emotions destroy the person?

I say both. With a lack of emotions, sure you can be successful in life, but it doesn't really mean anything. Plus it's commonly known that psychopaths are considered a different type of human, or are soulless. What makes a human are the emotions they feel. Emotions can also destroy a person when they are not controlled well. People can do the stupidest things on impulse just based on what they're feeling.

Depends on what emotions they are and whether the person is strong enough to not let emotions take control of them!

Emotions can do both. All knowledge, feelings, emotions, interests and everything are spirits. Even thoughts are not your own. If you don't control them, they will control you, then you will fall victim to your own self.
