How often should I wash my hair?
I have long, thin, naturally straight hair. It's light brown and gets dirty blonde in the summer. I typically wash my hair every night, but I've read before that you can damage your hair by doing so. The only problem is, if I go even a night without washing it, my hair gets disgustingly greasy.
Am I damaging my hair by washing it so often? If so, how can I prevent it from getting so greasy so that I can wash it less often?

I had the same exact problem.
Like literally, one day without washing my hair.. it looked like a greasy mess.
Now, I made a habit to wash my hair every other day and now my hair is used to it.
After awhile, your hair is less greasy even if you haven't washed it in like 4 days.
The longer you wait to wash your hair, the better.
I know it's really hard because I can not stand dirty hair or the sight of it ( I know I'm weird. xD ) but
it's worth it and now I don't have to do it late at night.
And also my hair looks way better since I'm washing it every other day.
What I would advise you to do is on a spring break from school or on a weekend, try starting the pattern. Put your hair up also on the first few days if it looks really greasy and distract it was a bow or something really cute. :)

Wash it every other day. And make sure not to hassle it too much with your towel, because it damages it. Try not to wring it. The best for your hair is air dry, but if you don't have enough time then blow dry it with heat protection. Since your hair is so thin, you should try using a dry shampoo when your hair is dry, or a leave in conditioner after you get out of the shower.

Try what others say every other day with dry shampoo in between. No one has mentioned switching to a sulfate free shampoo. Sulfate is a detergent put in shampoos to make it lather. Its a cheap ingrediant that strip your hair of its natural oils. You know your hair is stripped if it feels sqeaky clean, which is not good. Your hair gets greasy fast because it is trying to over compensate for all the stripping you are doing to your hair. You can wash you your hair everyday or every other day with a sulfate free shampoo without it stripping your hair. Loreal paris makes a great line of sulfate free shampoos for around $7

Washing your hair too much can damage it.
You should try using this product called Wen.
It is great for the hair and brings back it's defined color.
Make sure you brush it really good. You can add a hold in conditioner as well,
Just don't wash it too often.
Hope I helped (:
