Nikon P510 or Sony HX200V?

Open to any suggestions and opinions.

Recently played around with the P510 and I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of use with the new auto focus especially at an outrageous 42X zoom. It also has a new pro light mode and panorama which is neat.

DpReview doesn't have a whole lot spec wise for the HX200V that looks to outperform the HX100V in any huge way (but I could be wrong.) I do like the manual zoom and the better viewfinder but I don't know if they'd make or break my decision.

the Nikon COOLPIX P510 is a much better camera then the Sony HX200V:

I can give you a number of reasons for this.

Advantages of the Nikon P510 over Sony HX200V:

    1. Much more zoom 41.7x vs 30x

    2. Significantly better wide angle 24 mm vs 27 mm

    3. Slightly lighter 555 g vs 583 g

    4. Cheaper

A couple of Sony HX200V's better features are:

    1. Significantly longer exposures 30s vs 4s

    2. Significantly faster max shutter speed 1/4000s vs 1/2000s

    3. Shoots faster 10 fps vs 7 fps

    4. Better maximum light sensitivity 12,800 ISO vs 3,200 ISO

I found an informative review about the Nikon P510:

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V if you want to have another look:

  • Check out for reviews and samples on youtube. A few samples of Nikon P510 shows the auto focus to be pathetic and ambiguous whereas the Sony's HX200V is an improvement over the successful Sony HX100V.

You've to decide watching the reviews. :-)

Sony cameras have great outputs but very basic. Nikon I think is way better because it captures images artistically and they are also one of the trusted brands in the industry.

I say go for P510. Its not the price, its the quality of photos you capture.
