Does Sony offer any service warranty on their ps3's automatically?

I bought a PS3 on Jan 28th, 2012. Yeah, 2 months ago...

After tearing through my house, i found my receipt, which says Warranty Not Purchased on it in bold letters. Which makes me nervous when it comes to sending this into Sony.

I already called SCEA and they sent the prepaid box to send it back to them, which i got today.

Now, i'm past the 30 days Gamestop warranty...but does Sony offer a limited warranty? Cuz i didn't purchase the extended warranty.

I'm gonna lose my mind if they ask me to pay for this...2 months...and the system breaks down, froze constantly...and i'm not here to troll...i am a huge Sony fanboy, but this is ridiculous.

All PS3 come with 1 year free warranty. Otherwise you'd have to buy more.

But to inform you a little: DO NOT PLAY ANYTHING BUT BLU RAY DISCS ON THE PS3! It will keep it alive longer and keep the parts inside working properly. Other disc types are very bad for the system.

Also, ALL PS3's freeze REGARDLESS of model and there's NOTHING you can do to stop or prevent it from happening. It's the system itself that freezes (and no that doesn't mean it's faulty. Remember, ALL PS3's WILL freeze.) It's actually completely normal for them to freeze. Just make sure you turn the system off properly. You have to use the power button. Clicking it usually works. It will usually delay for about 10 seconds, beep at you then shut down. Sometimes the clicking won't shut down the system. If the clicking happens to not work you MUST HOLD the power button instead. That will force shut down. It might take a while (between 30 seconds to 5 minutes sometimes) but it WILL force shut down. The completely WRONG way to turn the system off is to unplug it. NEVER EVER EVER unplug it while it's on (or when it freezes, because it's still on.) That can corrupt data on the HDD, corrupt the entire HDD itself (your system will usually have to restore itself if you unplug it and it usually corrupts some data as well despite the restore), or just simply outright kill your PS3 making it nothing more than a giant paperweight. NEVER unplug it. This is actually the main reason people break their systems. It's because of ignorance on how to shut it down properly. And then they complain about it. It's honestly common sense to not unplug any system. Doing that is fatal for most electronics.

Your definitely not going to need to send in your new PS3 for many many many years unless your ignorant about what's bad for it. Average lifespan is 7 years. Its completely pointless to get an extended warranty. If anything get an External HDD that's at least 320GB big, get it formatted to FAT32 and occasionally use the Backup feature the system has to back everything you have onto the external HDD so that in case something DOES ever happen (which eventually it will since nothing lasts forever) you can restore everything onto a new PS3 if it dies completely. That's the most logical thing to do. I didn't backup my PS3 until I had it for 3 years. HDD (the type the PS3 uses inside of it) only typically last 3-6 years. So your going to want to get the external anyway to keep all your stuff and eventually do an HDD swap for a larger HDD and put everything you had on the external onto the same PS3 with the new HDD.

    Hope that helps.

All new systems have a limited warranty effective from the date of purchase. The warranty mentioned on your receipt is the store's extended warranty that they offer at an additional fee. It would protect your system beyond the standard limited warranty but isn't necessary.
