How much of a finger tip can be missing if you want to enlist?

I've been thinking of becoming an USAF officer candidate, but today I lost 1/3 of the tip of my dominate index finger. (link to picture below)

Although I fractured the bone, it is all still there. Seems I only lost some meat.

My plans to begin any official recruitment processes were not until at least September, but I'm willing to postpone so long as I am still eligible. To be an Air Force officer has been my dream since I was 8 (I'm 25 tomorrow)

    Hand and fingers.

Current absence of the distal phalanx of either thumb (885) is disqualifying.

Current absence of distal and middle phalanx of an index, middle, or ring finger of either hand, irrespective of the absence of the little finger (886), is disqualifying.

Current absence of more than the distal phalanx of any two of the following fingers: index, middle finger, or ring finger of either hand (886) is disqualifying.

Current absence of hand or any portion thereof (887) is disqualifying except for specific absences of fingers as noted above.

    Current polydactyly (755) is disqualifying.

Scars and deformities of the fingers or hand (905.2) that are symptomatic or that impair normal function to such a degree as to interfere with the satisfactory performance of military duty are disqualifying.

Current intrinsic paralysis or weakness of upper limbs, including nerve paralysis, carpal tunnel and cubital syndromes, lesion of ulnar and radial nerve (354) sufficient to produce physical findings in the hand, such as muscle atrophy and weakness is disqualifying.

    Did a bit of research.

I didn't see anything on the USAF website about missing body parts in particular.

But they can be very strict about this depending on the situation.

I've known a few people who have been enlisted with 8 fingers.

They cut you out if it effects your overall performance.

If you lost most of your finger, and can't pull a trigger in the jets/planes, you'd most likely be cut.

But in your case, I assume you'll be fine in recruitment in terms of your finger.

But in any other eligibility terms, I'm not quite sure.

I hope you make it and fulfill your dreams mate!

Don't sideline your hopes and dreams because of these fools quoting some obscure (and probably outdated) regulations.

Go to an Air Force recruiting office. They will have the most up to date information, and assuming you are qualified for an AF career, you will be sent to MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) where they will conduct a thorough physical medical examination. They will be they the authority on your finger.
