What to do if we don't know if a Gift Tax return was filed.?

About 14 years ago someone in family created a 15 year Qualified Personal Residence Trust (QPRT).

While researching what to do, I read that a Gift tax return should have been filed, but the Grantor has no recollection of doing so.

I think we will need the information in the future.

Can we find out from the IRS if a gift tax return was filed, and if so, will asking for it create a red flag?

thanks

Update:

Quick Answers: We may try that, but the primary attorney has retired and the law firm is no longer in business. We may be able to track down the attorney who made the document. thanks

Only the person who filed it originally can ask for it. It is probably too long ago to get a copy but you should try.

Start with the lawyer that drew the trust up. They should have filled the form out.
