Mommy dog just had pups, seems a little fragile. How can I help?

My shar-pei dog just had puppies yesterday and it seems all went well. However she had 8 pups. I didn't expect so many but none the less here they are. Mommy dog seems a little fragile and I want to know what I can do to make things a little easier or more comfy for her. This is also her first litter.

Since you haven't done it yet, you do know she needs the vet for her post-partum check, right? The vet will let you know what you should be doing after she gets her shot to clean out her uterus.

    First of all congratulations!!

I remember the feeling when my dog had her first ad second successful litter of happy healthy pups (:

My advice would be, don't let people visit her for the first few weeks, she will be very protective and want to feel safe with her pups, give her lots of fresh water and food and make sure you keep an eye on the weight of the pups, to make sure they are all getting enough milk

One common problem I had with my pomeranians pups is that one didnt get enough milk so I ended up bottle feeding them now and again with formulae milk from the vet

Anyway I hope this helps and all goes well (:

Yep she needs to go to the vet. Also, make sure her bedding is comfortable and she's warm. She will need plenty of water and food.

make sure you let her out regularly and make sure she is eating and drinking. squeeze her teats a little too to check if she is producing enough milk and squeeze the puppies skin and if it stands up, it is dehidrated.

( my dog had puppies 4 days ago!)
