Do you think self help books are a bit of a gimmick and nobody really needs them?

The only thing i could see them doing is making you believe the book is teaching you something but all its really doing is using fancy wording to make you feel more confident.

I think self help books have a place and have certainly helped many people. If they were truly a gimmick they wouldn't last, and they've been around a long time.

May be some of them are good. I have heard some very good writers like Hilary Mantel (she suggests Becoming a Writer, by Dorothea Brande,) suggest one of those books (assuming you are talking about self help books for writers.)

Well there might be some ironical cases where a person who writes, how to be a millionaire, who is himself deep in debt.

I would say they are just like any other kind of books, there are good books and there are bad books.

I believe that the Eckhart Tolle series ( The power o now, A New Earth ect.) are great books that can change your life when you start reading them.

Yes, most self help books are full of BS and nonsense but you should really read ''A New Earth''
