Becoming an au-pair in Italy?

I am a twenty year old female, I live in the UK at the moment. I am unemployed, left my job in February. There is high unemployment in this country, and barely any jobs! I currently am claiming job seekers which isn't very much.

I feel like there's not much for me here at the moment in England, and really want to experience the world and a different country. I have always wanted to visit Italy. So I really want to au-pair in Italy or maybe Greece or Cyprus.

How can I go about doing this, I've got a few online profiles. What should I expect? My Dad told me its not worth being an au-pair as they treat you as a slave and pay you very little. But as I like kids, and want to experience a different culture I think it would be good.

Has anyone had any experience as an au-pair, how can you make friends etc...

Thanks

Tabitha

I think it could be fun, but I've seen horror stories of doing this. I will say if you do decide to do this make sure to have enough money to come back in case it doesn't work out like you thought it would.

Tabitha: Get PLENTY of references (not for yourself--for them) just to be on the safe side.

It could be great--or a nightmare, otherwise.
