Poll - just cause not all of us can ride!!?
So I love horses of course but I have NO confidence when it comes to riding and rarely do ride. But I do work with horses, every day atleast 8 hours a day. And even though I have no confidance when riding a horse if Im dealing with it on the ground well bring it on and let him try anything!
So there are so many questions on here for people that ride.
So just cause i dont really have anything better to do right now -
Who here rarely actually rides horses but still works with them or wants to?
What are your non-riding related goals?
If you couldnt ride for whatever reason what would you do?
Favourite breed and why? (yep still relates to us to!)
Biggest non riding fear?
Favourite non riding moment?
Also what do you do for a living whether you ride or not? There are always so many questions around what to do to support your riding!!

Who here rarely actually rides horses but still works with them or wants to?
-I personally ride all the time. But I do understand not riding because of confidence; My mother rode her entire life, then had to quit competing because she was diagnosed with MS. That didn't stop her from riding for pleasure, but then a few years later she had to have a hip replacement. That's what took her confidence - a $40,000 hip, she was afraid of falling off & popping it out & within that time her trusty gelding she rode for 22 years died & getting on a "greener" horse intimidated her. This mare is the mare I ride now - she's not green, she just isn't her good old boy Bob.
But she still wants horses in her life. Currently I have both of the horses, but there is talk of getting her a "pasture pet".
What are your non-riding related goals?
- Getting both my horses to effortless lounge & have them react to only body language & pressure & never have to say anything.
If you couldn't ride for whatever reason what would you do?
- Train ground work- break young or not young horses & prep them to be ridden.
Favorite breed and why? (yep still relates to us to!)
- Oooo, that's a hard one. But I'd have to say a good QUALITY & bred foundation Quarter Horse, because I love their friendly personalities, work ethic, how they learn fast & willingness to please, their sleek & muscled bodies etc...
Biggest non riding fear?
- A horse freak out in the trailer. I've had this happen with my 3/4 Arab when I was 12 - I got trapped in there with her, she reared up & almost came down on me & I had no way of getting out or calming her down, I was able to get her unhooked some how & my mom got the back bar down & she flew out. I didn't get hurt but I could never load he again. I've had a fear of trailer even since. Luckily I have 2 great horse that are fantastic getting in, being in, & getting out & I'm old enough now to calm myself down & relax- but I have to fight off panic attacks when loading other peoples horses.
Favorite non riding moment?
-"Playing" with my gelding in a round pen off the line. Getting him to free lounge but yet watch every signal I give him & every movement in my body language - getting him to "play" with me jump, buck, run etc... but all for fun & under control!

Who here rarely actually rides horses but still works with them or wants to? I ride twice a week...but my horse is boarded an hour away so its hard to work with them
What are your non-riding related goals? Finish my Associates and move onto University
If you couldnt ride for whatever reason what would you do? Oh gosh, well i am a very good bowler, so i would probably compete in more competitive tournaments...but since they are on weekends and im usually showing i cant.
Favourite breed and why? (yep still relates to us to!) Quarter Horse, I think they are the most versatile horse, im just biased since its what i have grown up with
Biggest non riding fear? Not owning a horse, even if i couldnt ride..if i couldnt own a horse it would kill me
Favourite non riding moment? This is non horse related since like i said I enjoy bowling...but I won city tournament this year against the best bowlers in my area..i was pretty excited.
Right now im not working or going to school since im going to try to qualify for the novice world championships in vegas next year...in the future though im hoping to be a child psychologist.

I wouldn't say that I rarely ride horses, because I do enjoy riding them. However, riding is not the most important thing to me. I truly enjoy doing ground work with horses.
Well, I'd have to say that I've achieved most of my non-riding goals that are plausible right now. But a huge goal for me in my life right now is that I really want to become a horse rehabilitator. As in, working with horses that were abused and/or neglected. People have told me that 'animals love me' and I have seen plenty of evidence showing that to be true. I personally like working with abused/neglected animals more because they are so much different from the animals with no bad pasts. My family has always adopted animals and I've worked with a couple of abused horses and I just love being able to accomplish things with them.
If I couldn't ride, I would definitely follow up with my previous explanation: horse rehabilitator.
Quarter Horse and Arabian are tied for favorite. Why? because those are the two breeds I have enjoyed working with the most.
Biggest non-riding fear? I really don't think I have one
Favorite? Gosh. Too many to list. Maybe that one time when the Quarter Horse we used to have, rested his head on my leg when I was lying down.
I currently am in high school and don't have the option to have a job. But when I do, I hope to be either a horse rehabilitator (yeah, I really want to be one right now) or a veterinarian with a special focus on equine (this does not mean I only work with horses)
Thanks for making this. I really enjoyed typing all this stuff up.

Who here rarely actually rides horses but still works with them or wants to?
I do ride at the moment, but I did have a 2 year old for a while so I did lots of groundwork/manners work instead with her.
What are your non-riding related goals?
I would love to be able to teach my horse some tricks, maybe a bow or something.
If you couldn't ride for whatever reason what would you do?
I would like to go into breeding, but I need lots of experience first.
Favourite breed and why?
Hanoverian (because I have one) they're versatile and big!
Biggest non riding fear?
It isn't horsey related, but it's farm related. I'm frightened of geese! We have them at our yard and they always chase me :-(
Favourite non riding moment?
I just love brushing my horse and bonding with her. She likes a good scratch on the bum and never gets bored of it.
Also what do you do for a living whether you ride or not?
I work in IT... enough said.

1) - I ride everyday:)
2) - Umm, tbh i don't really have any?! Don't do much other than riding! I'm only 15:P
3) - I'd rehome a horse from a local rescue centre which can't be ridden for whatever reason and keep it as a companion:)
4) - Thoroughbred - they are beautiful and fast and just lovely horses I think!
5) - My toes being trampled on by my horse!
6) - When I arrive to do my horse and he nickers to me:')
I'm still at school, so I ride every day after school and at weekends.
I get up extremely early on weekdays to do him;P
Hope I helped:)

I ride a lot but I do want to work with them (sorry)
To get my horse to come to me in the field. Stop him being bolshie with exercises, getting him used to picking up his feet, trying to get him used to being shod and eventually get him to shod without him being double sedated, get rid of his fear of needles. OMG I really have my work cut out! (he’s not even small he’s nearly 17hh)
I actually can’t ride at the moment because he hurt him self in the field but i just like to groom and do exercises so he gets more respect.
Friesian (to look at, they are so beautiful) to ride: Irish sports horse because they are just so m much fun
I fear nothing and everything. I don’t think about the worst thing that will happen to me and fixate on it, I am just a wear of the consequences, if I am going to get hurt I cant do anything about it and that’s the same with riding.
When my old horse joined with me in ‘join up’
I don’t work but in September I am going to collage to do 3 years of equine studies!
