Do fragrances smell differently to different people?

This may apply to food and music, but I am focusing on scent here. I have recently become interested in male fragrances and I immediately purchased a few of the "heavy-hitters" according to reviews (Le male, 1 million, versace eau fraiche, versace the dreamer, Yves Saint Laurent L'Homme, etc). Since then, I have gotten various reactions from people (good and bad). This led me to wonder: do my olfactory receptors send the same signals to my brain than the next person? Is that why some people hate scents I love? or do we both receive the same signals but form opinions based on emotions and other factors within the brain?

We all have different likes and dislikes so would all choose different perfumes however, this is mainly because perfumes smell different on one person's skin than they do on another person's skin. This is all to do with the oils in our own skin.

One should never buy a perfume because it smells nice on another person nor should one buy a perfume because it smells nice from the bottle. Only buy perfume which smells nice on you. That is what tester bottles are for.

Yes , they do and each smells differently on different people due to their body chemistry

I too only ever bought PS by Paul Sebastian for the men in my life. Loved those free cut glass cups that were the gift with purchase too,LOL.

I certainly hope this is so because that would explain why the perfume worn by the woman who works three offices away from me gives me a splitting headache and makes me nauseous, yet she must love it because she wears it so heavily you can smell where she's been in the past hour.

Yes, I think scents are like tastes. We like some and not others.

As for the brain science behind it all, I just don't know.

Yes, and body chemistry plays a big part. The only one I like to smell on a man is PS by Paul Sebastian.!!!!!

    Yes.

Why do you think there are different scents for cologne and perfume?

Everyone has a different taste in smells, tastes, sense of style, you name it.

This is a great question.Notice how people react to taste. Some people love veggies that others won't eat.I have often wondered if we see ''colors'' different.Take any color such as green grass, we were taught that grass is green, but wonder if my green grass is seen different than your green grass. But we both except it as green.

You reasoning is good; but also consider a person's own body chemistry as well as,personal preferences come into play.
