Good in the Middle English definition as "Holy".

When I was growing up, it was also called Black Friday. It was also called both of these by followers of Mithra - who was the preferred god of the Roman army that was occupying the Holy Land during Jesus' life.

Mithra, the only begotten son of God, was born in a virgin birth on 12/25. He spent his days teaching and performing miracles - healing and raising the dead and the like. He had a feast held in his honor before being martyred on Good Friday. On the third day, he arose from the dead and ascended into the sky, to be with his father, the Sun (God) where he sits on the right hand and intercedes to this day on behalf of his followers.

Now compare this god in heaven with Jesus' God - who said that the Kingdom of Heaven is WITHIN and that YOU are the light of the world.

So people will attend whatever Church Dogma states and so that a church makes money. This is good, for the church.

Some call it Black Friday, I do not care what it is called, or when it is supposed to be, I cannot recite scriptures and passages , or I elect not to because that takes away from the entire text.

If Bobs church wants to have a good friday and Joans church wants to have a black friday, that is kewl.

It does not have an effect on my beliefs.

As with many questions about why Christians revere the crucifixion (Like "Why do Christians wear crosses if that's what killed Jesus?") It is not "Woot Jesus is dead!" Instead it is respect for the sacrifice, and thanks for our salvation. While there is a certain amount of sorrow regarding Jesus' death, the primary feeling is supposed to be gratitude. Furthermore, most Christians believe that it was all planned, and that makes it theoretically less sad as well.

Good Friday (from the senses pious, holy of the word "good"), is a religious holiday observed primarily by Christians commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary. The holiday is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum on the Friday preceding Easter Sunday, and may coincide with the Jewish observance of Passover. It is also known as Black Friday, Holy Friday, Great Friday, or Easter Friday.

Jesus was awaiting his resurrection on Friday. He was resurrected after three literal days and nights. It's some Catholic thing that really doesn't have a certain meaning.

Fact is that Jesus never died on the cross! Look up "THE SWOON THEORY" on the internet!

    Christianity is brainwash!

I suppose because some feel it's good that, in the Christian mythology, that one guy was crucified to prevent us from having to sacrifice animals.

You know, I'd sacrifice an animal to save any human, including Jesus. So it really was an unnecessary thing, IMHO.

We call it Good Friday because of our sins being forgiven and Jesus dying for us to show his love for the world.

Jesus Christ died for our sins, thus reconciling man to God, making the forgiveness of sins and Salvation possible for mankind. Objectively speaking, that's a Good thing.
