Is it the usual a&r scam?
I'm an unsigned singer/musician, I got an email from a guy, stating that he was from MCA Records. At first he didn't seem to have written it to me personally. He talked about MCA Records' auditions for unsigned artists in London in July 2012. I sent him my myspace link and he replied with an email saying, that after he heard the songs, he would like to sign me to his label. I'm really skeptical about these things usually, so I looked up on the internet. There's nothing about his name, and the label MCA Records doesn't exist anymore, except for the MCA Nashville, but this wasn't that. I asked the guy if he could send me a website of his label, and he said "it's signed to Geffen/interscope" so he sent me the interscope website, which does not have a section about MCA Records.
Anyway, he sent me the contract to sign, online (kinda weird that a major label would do it online). It sounds like the usual scam, but the weird part is, he didn't ask for any money, only offered. I won't go thru with this, I'll probably won't even answer him back, but where is the scam here? He is not asking advance money, how come? If I'd sign the contract where would be the scam? Anyway like I said I'll ignore him and move on with my life.

Before you do a thing, Call Interscope's headquarters (main number Telephone: (310) 208-6547) and ask if this person works for them
No record label signs anyone over the internet without seeing them perform live.
Scammers usually don't ask for money upfront -- that comes later after they think they have you hooked. Usually what happens in music scams is they "sign" you then want you to send money to record your demo CD - that's where they get a few hundred or thousand dollars off you
