Hamster toilet litter?

My daughters use hamster potty litter for their hamsters. http://www.superpetusa.com/product-list/potty-litt... The product works in that the hamsters are potty trained, however it needs changing more often than advertised( we change it twice daily) and we go through lots of it as it doesn't deodorize. Come morning the ammonia smell is very pungent. My question is can we use a dust free cat litter with deodorizer instead as we can buy 20lbs for less than the price of a 1lb box of this hamster litter.

Basically is "dust free" kitty litter with either baking soda or carbon hamster safe?

Kitty litter with baking soda or carbon just isn't safe for hamsters what so ever.

I use a kitty litter as bedding and line it all along my cage floor for my hammies. And let me tell you it is amazing at odor control! Which is why I use it for bedding, it is a wood pelleted bedding, once peed on it fluffs up and you know exactley where your spot cleaning needs to be done.

It would work great for your daughters hammys potty littler. Here is a link

This size bag is 3 dollars at my local Walmart I don't know if they sell it at your but you can always order it online. I guarentee this will help with the odor, it does wonders for all my tanks and cages with all my rodents.

Rodent potty litter sold in stores is expensive and is very dangerous if eaten by your hammy and can cause death if eaten. It does nothing for odor control and you don't get much for the money you pay for it.

Feline Pine is cheap, you get tons of it, it last a long time for hamsters, it is wonderful at odor control and I would recommend it to anyone as hammy litter or bedding!

    Hope I Helped

Im sure that will be fine but it sounds like your changing the litter a bit too much - i change minne about 2/3 times a week!! maybe you should just try a different brand of hamster litter, that might help the smell!

    hope this helped :)
