In tim burtons movie 'Big Fish' what is his metaphor like why does he use the term big fish so much.

Kinda digging deeper in dept what does this movie mean the whole shish.ca.bob!

    The Big Fish he is referring to is the father making himself seem like a "big fish in a small pond." By telling his fantastic stories he making his life seem more interesting then it actually was, even though at the end the son finds out most of what his father told him was true.
