Keep in mind that not everyone has the same expectation on what the tv should look like. I have had at less 5 Plasma tv and 2 LCD tv and have never made any adjustment coming from the factory. It is not worth the money on having someone like Best Buy come out to make the adjustment for a fee. You can buy a blu ray disc that you can make adjustment at home on your own. Those guys at Best Buy are not the best professional at all. You have to go to a high end type retail store that have there own service professional to make the adjustment for you. Hope this will help you out.

I don't know whether or not Best Buy's calibration geeks are

Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) certified, but they probably aren't...

As other answerers have said, a calibration disc ($20 to $50)

will help you make the most of the set

at a fraction of the cost of calibration ($250 and up).

Get a disc and follow the instructions to the letter.

You should put the tv on default, factory setting and see how you like it. They are very easy to adjust in the tv's main menu area under picture settings. If you can't get it how you'd like it to look, just search for the exact make and model + picture settings and you will get a bunch of suggestions. Just try some and adjust it yourself.

Paying for a calibration isn't really necessary. They look good with defaults and some small alterations and even when someone else calibrates it, you'd still probably want it somewhat different to suit your own likes.

You can do 95-99% as well with a calibration disc. If you really want to spend the money on somebody to do it for you, make sure the TV is on for at least an hour before they arrive.

Unless you are a real fanatic, the calibration will not be worthwhile. But I am sure Best Buy will be happy to take your money.

There are calibration DVD discs sold, so you can investigate that.
