Do I cleanse, exfoliate, tone then moisturise?

Hey, I recently bought a cleanser, toner, and a moisturiser for the first time, since my skin is getting really bad now. I have combination to normal type skin. And I don't wear make up btw.

So in the morning and at night, I cleanse, tone and moisturise, but I am aware that I shouldn't be exfoliating daily.

But when I do exfoliate, is it: cleanse, tone, exfoliate, then moisturise? Or is it cleanse, exfoliate, tone and then moisturise? Because right now I just cleansed, toned, exfoliated, and then moisturiser but I didn't see the point in toning if I was gonna exfoliate soon after. Can anyone help me on this also, do you know any good exfoliators? The one that I use is clean and clear morning energy, but it doesn't seem to be doing much.

Lastly, how can I get rid of my spots? Is cleansing, toning and moisturising twice a day enough?

Thanks :)

Update:

Hey Bonnie, thanks for your answer :) and about the spot creams, are they working for you?

Hey.. No thats wrong haha, yes you cleane, tone and then moisterise.

WHEN you exfoliate, you do NOT cleanse, you exfoliate, tone and then moisterise :)

thats the mistake.. and for the spots you should:

    - Drink 8 Glasses of water a day (free)

    - Fruits & Vegtables (full of vitamins and minerals)

Not only will this get rid of the spots, but it will make your skin GLOW, and become so much more healthy! & YOU will also feel great ;)

P.S add lemon to your water in the morning, drink everyday, thats great and will surely clear spots as it cleanses and washes all your toxins from the inside.. which is what causes spots! So better to get rid of the cause than to cure it right? :)

    Exfoliate Then Cleanse

Homemade skin whitening products are by far the cheapest and safest solution to the brown spots which trouble you so much. Read here https://tinyurl.im/aHLd0

They are very effective and at the same nurture the skin, so that you will not only have a whiter skin, but a healthier one too.

Each and every person wants a clean and radiant skin. Some spend fortunes on cosmetic products that will lighten the skin and remove all the imperfections, others spend their money on esthetic operations in the hope that their skin will look perfect. Lastly, there are people trying to fake a healthy skin by using all kinds of makeup that will cover the imperfections and leave the impression that the skin is healthy and has no scars, wrinkles or spots.

All these people are looking for a way through which they can make their skin look good. Yet, what they have not taken into consideration is the power of natural ingredients. Fruits, vegetables and products coming from animals are great sources of anti-oxidants and are rich in substances which can whiten the skin, moisturize it, attenuate the fine lines and wrinkles and give it elasticity.

You would definitely exfoliate before you tone. Toning removes anything left behind, refreshes your skin, and lets your skin absorb your moisturizer to its fullest, and you're not meant to wash it off.

Whether you cleanse or exfoliate first is up to you. The majority of people cleanse, then exfoliate. I can't remember why, but it's something to do with the fact that cleansing takes off all your surface oil and dirt, which will allow you to exfoliate your real skin, instead of just scrubbing dirt into your skin haha. Something like that. But obviously the person above me prefers exfoliating before, so I guess it really depends on what works best for you.

As for getting rid of spots, you're going to have to determine (probably through trial and error) what actually causes your acne. Some people have acne due to unclean skin. Others have hormonal acne. Others have hereditary acne. Others get bad skin from eating really badly. You get what I mean, there's endless possibilities. You're going to have to see what causes YOUR acne, and go from there. I am really acne prone, and if I don't devote like three or four minutes a night to cleanse my skin (most people need one minute) then I break out. I also use a chemical exfoliant 5 days out of 7, using a baking soda scrub twice a week (the other two days). If I don't exfoliate regularly, I get a tonnnnnnnnnnnn of clogged pores, which lead to really bad acne /:

Edit: Oh and I agree that if you use toner you should definitely use an alcohol free one!

Um just to clear something up, you do cleanse after exfoliating. Don't know why they said to not cleanse. ^_^; Currently at work so I can't give a more detailed explanation, but Bonnie is correct in her information. :)

EDIT: Alright on break at work! Katherine below is also correct, to each their own, but getting the dead skin off first is important and then cleansing to rid yourself of any deep dirt in your pores. Make sure you are not using a foam cleanser! This clogs up your pores and also makes your skin age. Be sure your skin products do NOT have alcohol in them because it drys out your skin and will also make it age faster. I exfoliate twice a week and cleanse, tone and use emulsion morning and night. Emulsion works as a moisturizer while also give your skin much needed nutrients. Also, consider using a night mask that you can sleep with and that you dont need to wash off in the morning. B.B. cream also evens out your skin tone and gets ridding of redness and works at clearing up any acne I might get. Garnier has a B.B. cream they just came out with that is about 13$...which is the cheapest you find anywhere because other brands cost far more. Hope this was helpful. ^_^ Time to get back to work.

Broken-out skin must be treated GENTLY. Exfoliating is not a good idea, since it will irritate existing break-outs and stimulate the oil glands, causing more break-outs.

Toner is really unnecessary, but if you want to use one, find one that is gentle and relatively low on alcohol, which can be irritating. Any moisturizer you use should be oil-free.

Spot creams can be very helpful, though some people find them irritating. You just have to experiment to find one to which you are not overly sensitive.

Twice a day is plenty for cleansing. Any more is too much. You really need to avoid too much stimulation, too much moisturizer, even too much TOUCHING of your face. Less is more.

Hey, it sounds like you and I have similar skin, so I think one of us has to have the right answer! I like to exfoliate even before I cleanse, just because I feel like the cleanser removes any dead skin or outside dirt that is loosened by the exfoliant. And for spots, I like to use Clearasil Acne Marks and Spot Lotion. Hope this helps!
